At the heart of all professional development in education is a commitment to improve the quality of learning and teaching in schools. Training that is tailored to the individual needs of the teacher, department or school is far more likely to have sustainable impact than a ‘one size fits all’ approach.
We have a wide range of school support available, from workshops, clubs and projects to bespoke or shared in-service training. Between us, we have hundreds of years of experience in education, with a number of our staff being qualified and experienced teachers themselves.

Here are some of the ways in which Open Minds supports professional development in schools.
Immersive, inquiry based, thematic approach to teaching and learning, using drama as a stimulus. This cross-curricular creative approach engages pupils and stimulates imagination. It is also proven to enthuse secondary pupils, especially the disengaged. Children explore the curriculum as if they were an imagined group of experts. The children are asked to imagine themselves as a group of experts with jobs and responsibilities, participating in activities that will inspire understanding across curriculum. We can also co-create immersive, thematic spaces to carry out cross-curricular, inquiry based learning. After a comprehensive CPD session, we leave the creative spaces and schemes of work for other teachers/year groups to use and develop.
Whole School Inset Events
If you are looking for a whole school approach to using drama, then we can lead a practical training event to exemplify the impact of drama methodology on learning. By experiencing the learning process, teachers will not only understand the underpinning pedagogy, but will also extend their own teaching repertoire significantly.
Working with Focus Teachers
Focus teachers can be identified to receive more intense and sustained in-school training. This involves collaborative planning, team teaching and reflective evaluation between us and the focus teachers. The focus teachers can then share good practice within their school through peer observation and staff meetings.
By building a relationship of trust and confidence, we enable teachers to build on their strengths and encourage them to take risks. Through this process, teachers adopt a solutions-focused approach to maximising their potential.
The most effective professional development is achieved through a sustained relationship between Open Minds and you. This can be realised through on-going curriculum development and delivery in your school.
Between us, the OMTC team have over a century of experience in Early Years, Primary and Secondary Schools at every level, included proven success in whole-school leadership. We can support schools in bespoke packages of curriculum reform and innovation through combinations of leadership training and support, team planning, team teaching, mentoring, remote support, etc. Get in touch to discuss your needs.
